Hiking Trip - Mayfouk Hike - Jbeil District

  • MAYFOUK HIKE

    Mayfouk is a picturesque Lebanese village in the Byblos (Jbeil) district of Mount Lebanon, located 60 km from Beirut, with altitudes ranging from 800m to 1100m. Historically, it was the second Maronite Patriarchal seat in Lebanon.

    Highlights:
    • Known as the "Village of Honey" – hosts a summer honey festival
    • Rich in historical monuments, stunning views, and natural trails

    Hike Details:
    • Start: Deir Saidet Mayfouk (est. 1746)
    o Visit Our Lady of Elige – oldest Maronite icon in Lebanon
    o Visit St. Charbel Chapel – mountain view, dedicated to the hermit saint
    o Visit Mar Saba Church – ancient, abandoned, between two giant oak trees

    Split into Two Levels:
    • Level 3 (easier route):
    o Explore, then bus to Monastery of Our Lady of Elige (1120 AD)
    o Highlights: Saint Charbel Makhlouf lived here, impressive architecture (arcades, colonnades, barrel vaulting)
    • Level 6 (challenging route):
    o Continue on foot to Ram, then join at Monastery of Our Lady of Elige

    End of Hike:
    • Gather at a local restaurant for traditional dishes
    • Opportunity to buy local honey

    There will be a breakfast stop along the way.

    PRICE: $70 per person including transport, guides, insurance and lunch.
