Hiking Trip - Al Dimane - Annoubine

  • Qadisha Valley, situated within the Becharre and Zgharta Districts of the North Governorate of Lebanon, is a deeply sacred place. Carved by the Qadisha River, also known as Nahr Abu Ali as it flows towards Tripoli, this valley holds immense spiritual significance. Its name, "Qadisha," meaning "Holy" in Aramaic, aptly reflects its role as a sanctuary for Christian monastic communities over many centuries.

    Rich in history, the valley is dotted with caves and rock shelters inhabited since ancient times, with cave chapels, hermitages, and monasteries carved into the rock. Recognized for its cultural importance, the entire valley, along with its cave churches, is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. With approximately 13 different trails, it offers diverse experiences for visitors.

    During our visit, we will explore key sites such as Deir Saidet Annoubine, St. Marina, and Deir Mar Licha, passing through Dimane, depending on the chosen level of the hike. Divided into two levels:

    For Levels 2 & 4, the journey will commence at the Mar Lichaa Entrance, following a 3-kilometer path to the Lady of Annoubine Monastery. After a rest, participants will return to the bus either by foot or through a dedicated shuttle within the valley.

    For Level 6, the trek begins from Dimane, the summer residence of the Maronite Patriarch, leading to Annoubine village. Here, visits to Deir Saidet Annoubine and St. Marina are scheduled, followed by a gathering at a local restaurant in the Holy Valley for a traditional Lebanese lunch.

    After lunch, the journey continues to Mar Licha.

    WHAT TO GET: Light snacks that will boost up your energy such as dried fruits, water, cap, sunglasses and sunscreen. Wear comfortable shoes such as hiking shoes and always keep a windproof jacket in your backpack.

    SPECIAL RATES:
    - Children with the age of 10 and younger will have a discount of 5$.
    - Children/ Teenagers between the age of 11 and 18 will have a discount of 4$.
    - University students will have a discount of 3$ provided that they present their university card.
    - Groups with 5 to 9 persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a 2$ discount.
    - Groups with 10 or more persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a 3$ discount.

    PAYMENT TERMS:
    - Cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged half-price.
    - Reservations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged an extra 2$.
    (e.g. Cancelling or booking for a Sunday’s event on Saturday will be subject to the above terms).

    ESSENTIAL ECOTOURISTIC RULES & REGULATIONS
    - Smoking is strictly prohibited during the event
    - Always follow the guide on the designated trail
    - Do not go off road without notifying the guide
    - Do not get close to a cliff especially when the guide in charge tells you not to do so
    - Although accidents are covered by the insurance but they remain under the responsibility of the member
    - Sometimes, due to reasons beyond our control, slight modifications to the program may occur. Ecotourism rules must be followed, otherwise personal accidents will not be accounted for by the insurance.
