Hiking Trip - Tannourine Cedar Reserve Hike - Batroun District

  • Tannourine Cedar Reserve: A Majestic Forest Retreat
    The Tannourine Cedar Reserve is a breathtaking forest situated at an altitude of 1,500 to 2,000 meters above sea level. Designated as a natural reserve in February 1999, it is the largest and densest cedar forest in Lebanon, with 80% of its trees being majestic cedars. The stunning mountainous landscape, where cedars seem to defy gravity on steep, vertical slopes, is truly awe-inspiring. Here, you can also find rare flowers unique to this high-altitude environment.

    At 2,000 meters above sea level and just an hour from Beirut, Tannourine’s cedars offer a remarkable escape from daily stress and routine, enveloping you in their natural beauty.

    As always, our hike will feature three levels of difficulty:

    LEVEL 6+: This challenging option is designed for the physically fit. Expect steep ascents with minimal time for rest and photo opportunities. Ideal for those looking for a rigorous workout, this trail spans approximately 15 km. You’ll start at Arz Hadath el Jebbeh and ascend to Jurd Tannourine before descending into the reserve, where you’ll meet Level 4 for lunch.

    LEVEL 4: A bit easier than Level 6+, this hike allows for more time to savor the views and immerse yourself in nature. With scheduled rest stops for photos, this route winds through the reserve and is the longest trail available, covering about 9 km amidst the beautiful cedar trees.

    LEVEL 2: This is a very easy hike within the reserve, spanning 4 km. Perfect for beginners or those looking for a leisurely stroll.

    After our hikes, all three levels will come together for a homemade lunch at a local restaurant before we head back to Beirut. Join us for a day of adventure and natural beauty in the Tannourine Cedar Reserve!

    There will be a breakfast stop along the way.

    PRICE: $60 per person including transport, guides, insurance, reserve entrance and lunch.

    WHAT TO GET: Light snacks that will boost up your energy such as dried fruits, water, cap, sunglasses and sunscreen. Wear comfortable shoes such as hiking shoes and always keep a windproof jacket in your backpack.

    SPECIAL RATES:
    - Children with the age of 10 and younger will have a discount of 5$.
    - Children/ Teenagers between the age of 11 and 18 will have a discount of 4$.
    - University students will have a discount of 3$ provided that they present their university card.
    - Groups with 5 to 9 persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a 2$ discount.
    - Groups with 10 or more persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a 3$ discount.

    PAYMENT TERMS:
    - Cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged half-price
    - Reservations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged an extra 2$.
    (e.g. Cancelling or booking for a Sunday’s event on Saturday will be subject to the above terms)

    ESSENTIAL ECOTOURISTIC RULES & REGULATIONS
    - Smoking is strictly prohibited during the event
    - Always follow the guide on the designated trail
    - Do not go off road without notifying the guide
    - Do not get close to a cliff especially when the guide in charge tells you not to do so
    - Although accidents are covered by the insurance but they remain under the responsibility of the member
    - Sometimes, due to reasons beyond our control, slight modifications to the program may occur. Ecotourism rules must be followed, otherwise personal accidents will not be accounted for by the insurance.
