Hiking Trip - Ehden Hike - Zgharta District

  • Ehden Hike
Discover the Splendor of Ehden Forest (Horsh Ehden)

Ehden Forest (Horsh Ehden) is one of Lebanon’s most vibrant ecosystems, revealing its true beauty, especially in autumn when the foliage bursts with a kaleidoscope of colors from its diverse tree species.

Horsh Ehden Nature Reserve is a treasure trove of biodiversity, home to over a thousand documented types of trees and plants—representing nearly 40% of Lebanon’s total flora—all contained within less than 0.1% of the country’s land area.

Our hike will explore the reserve with three different levels of challenge:

LEVEL 3 begins near Nabaa Jouit, at the reserve's lower entrance. The trail meanders through a picturesque pine forest, leading to an area rich in rare trees, including wild apples, various deciduous and evergreen oaks, and stunning yellow-leafed maple trees.

As we progress, the landscape shifts to a mix of conifers, featuring majestic cedar and fir trees, marking the southernmost limit of these species. The trail culminates at approximately 1,750 meters, deep within the cedar forest, providing ample opportunities for photography, enjoying panoramic views, and immersing yourself in the enchanting atmosphere.

LEVEL 5 follows the same route as Level 3 but at a faster pace. This hike continues to the summit of the reserve, reaching the Btellaya hut at an elevation of 2,000 meters. Weather permitting, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the forest below and the unique round-shaped juniper trees that overlook it.

LEVEL 6 is reserved for clear, fog-free days. This trail leads to the mountain's peak, where you can visit Abou Yousef’s house and the cave known as 'Beb el Hawa.' The path then continues to the summit of Jurd and extends further to Saidet el Hosn.

After our hike, we’ll gather for a delicious lunch prepared by local residents, celebrating the flavors of the region. Join us for this unforgettable experience in one of Lebanon’s most stunning natural settings!
