Hiking Trip - Ehden Hike - Zgharta District

  • Ehden Forest (Horsh Ehden) is one of Lebanon's most diverse ecosystems, showcasing its true beauty, particularly in the autumn season, when colors are as varied as the numerous tree species that inhabit it.

Horsh Ehden Nature Reserve boasts a remarkable biodiversity, with over a thousand different types of trees and plants documented, representing nearly 40% of Lebanon's total plant species. It's noteworthy that this diversity is recorded within the confines of the reserve, which covers less than 0.1% of Lebanon's total land area.

Our hike will take us through and around the reserve, with three different levels:
LEVEL 3 will commence near Nabaa Jouit, the lower entrance of the reserve. The trail winds through a pine forest, leading to an area abundant with a wide variety of rare trees, including wild apples, various deciduous and evergreen oaks, and the splendid yellow-leafed maple trees.

The forest then transitions to a mix of conifers, including the majestic cedar and fir trees, marking the southernmost boundary of these species. The trail culminates at approximately 1750 meters in the heart of the cedar forest, allowing ample time for photography, contemplation of the panoramic views, and immersion in the enchanting atmosphere.

LEVEL 5 follows the same path as level 3 but at a faster pace. The hike continues to the summit of the reserve, reaching the Btellaya hut at an elevation of 2000 meters. Weather permitting, breathtaking views of the forest below and the distinctive round-shaped juniper trees overlooking it can be enjoyed.

LEVEL 6 This level will only be undertaken in clear, fog-free weather. The trail leads to the mountain's peak, where a visit to Abou Yousef's house and the cave known as 'Beb el Hawa' awaits. The path then continues to the summit of Jurd and extends further to Saidet el Hosn.

Following the hike, we will gather for lunch prepared by the local residents of the area.
