Hiking Trip - Faraya Hike - Keserwan District
Hello friends,
Hiking through natural springs is a unique experience in Faraya, which means “springs overflow” in Phoenician. Home to more than 7 natural springs in addition to wells, Faraya is not only a winter destination for snow sports but also for summer vacation. The village has a very fertile soil and is well-known for its apples harvest.
Faraya is abundant with maple trees that lose its leaves in winter and cedar trees that maintain their green leaves all year long especially underneath the Chabrouh limestone cliff.
Chabrouh Dam, inaugurated in 2007 became a landmark in the area especially that it is one of the highest reservoirs in the Middle East region.
Faraya is also a main pilgrimage destination with the largest statue of Saint Charbel, the Mountain of the Cross, 2 monasteries and more than 8 churches.
Our journey in Faraya will start from Chabrouh, where we will stop by the Chabrouh Dam for a quick visit passing through ‘Nabaa’ al aasal’ spring among others and getting a glimpse of ‘Chir en nsour’ (meaning cliff of the Eagles) another cliff in the area where occasionally eagles may appear, hence the name.
We will walk right underneath the Chabrouh cliff at 1550 m, on a trail just recently prepared by the Lebanese Mountain Trail association in collaboration with Faraya’s Municipality, crossing through a little artificial bridge over a beautiful natural waterfall that offers a bird’s-eye view of the village and which becomes more abundant when snow melts. The road will lead us south before we start descending to the center of the village. We will walk a few meters on asphalt, pass across an old bridge and catch our 2-km riverside refreshing hike between the falling leaves of the maple trees, prepared by Faraya’s Municipality, passing by an old mill and a couple of bridges. We will cross the last bridge and start our final ascent of few meters long that will lead us back to the bus to head towards a traditional lunch place.
The hike is a moderate one, Level 4: 9 km long.
