Hiking Trip - Zeaitre - Keserwan District
We will be visiting a small but remarkably beautiful village. Zeaitre is a unique village located in Ftouh Keserwan. The name is derived from “Berkit Zeaiter,” which refers to the Zeaiter pond that once existed in the village. Another explanation for the name is the abundance of wild “Zaatar” found in the surrounding nature.
Standing at 750 meters above sea level and only 42 kilometers from Beirut, Zeaitre is a year-round destination. It is also the hometown of André and Jean Saade, the famous Lebanese wrestlers.
The municipality has done a wonderful job maintaining the village’s ecosystem, creating hiking trails, and preserving its archaeological sites.
Our hike will lead us past ancient oak trees, some between 300 and 900 years old, as well as ancient churches, Roman ruins, and old Ottoman trails that once linked villages.
This small village boasts more than 12 kilometers of trails. You will be pleasantly surprised by the many ecotourism sites and natural beauty found in such a compact area.
We will start our day with a breakfast prepared by local residents.
The hike will be divided into two levels:
• Level 4: Approximately 8 km, with some uphill and downhill sections.
• Level 2: Approximately 3 km. This is an easier trail leading to the Roman Stairs.
Once the hike is complete, both groups will gather in a beautiful spot to enjoy homemade food prepared by the housewives of Zeaitre, at a restored 250-year-old Lebanese house featuring traditional wooden ceilings.
