Hiking Trip - Kawkaba Hasbaya Hike - Hasbaya District

  • Our destination this time is to one of the richest and most diversified typical Lebanese villages of the south, Kawkaba. This village is an extremely important location where very interesting and major historical facts took place around its landmarks.

This trail was prepared with the coordination of the local municipality who is doing an excellent job on the ecotourism level, from different trails around the area to a new ecological bungalows project and many other plans that we will be briefed about during our tour.

During this hike, we will pass by very old olive trees where it is believed that “Jesus Christ” used to pray among them, we will also see the “Christ Water Source” where it is also believed that the Christ once drank from its water as well as many old caves with different stories among its rocks.

We will also pass by a track known as the “Silk Route” and another one known as “The Sultans and Kings” road which overlooks Hasbaya region and the famous “Hermont Mountain”. Finally we will be seeing many important landmarks of Hasbaya city, which is a major city of our southern district.

Our hike will start at the “Christ Water Source” all together and then head on an uphill track reaching “The Sultans and Kings” road where we will contemplate beautiful scenery along the way. We will then start heading downwards toward the town of Kawkaba passing by old natural caves where a lot of martyrs were found in 315 A.D.

We will then reach the main piazza of the village and visit an old historical church and pass by very old olive trees.

After this visit we will walk to the public garden of the village where we will have an exquisite traditional homemade food will be prepared by a local women’s association.

Once we finish lunch, Level 6 will go down until reaching the “Silk Route” and the “Phoenician Road” reaching the Phoenician Khan where will meet Level 3 who will go there by bus.
