Hiking Trip - Menjez Hike - Akkar District
This time, we're venturing to one of the most majestic villages in Akkar Caza, Menjez!
Menjez, whose name originates from the Aramaic language meaning "Buried Treasure," sits at the northern borders of Lebanon and Syria, boasting remarkable landmarks. These include 7000-year-old tombs, the 250-year-old St. Daniel’s Church, and ancient houses constructed with black volcanic stones.
Moreover, Menjez is home to a venerable citadel known as the "Temple of God," or "Beit Jal’ouk," a structure dating back to 100 BC. Initially occupied by the Romans, it later became a focal point for various civilizations, including the Greeks and Crusaders. We'll explore this citadel in detail before proceeding to "Nabe’ Jal’ouk" and Saydet Mou’een, eventually reaching the Menjez River.
Our hike will commence as a group, then split into two levels: moderate, covering approximately 9 km, and easy, covering around 6 km. Both groups will have the opportunity to discover most of the village's landmarks.
Both levels will reconvene at the village's main square for a delectable homemade specialty meal prepared by the local housewives. Additionally, there will be local products available for purchase around the square.
After lunch, we'll journey to "Saydet el Kalaa," where we'll enjoy a breathtaking view overlooking northern Lebanon and a significant portion of Syria.
