Hiking Trip - Rachaya El Wadi - Rachaya District

  • Rachaya el Wadi is a town of heritage and history. It is renowned for enclosing many old monuments, essentially the Citadel of Independence. In this amazing village you can also find the oldest church in the region, Mar Moussa al Habashi, a Syriac-Catholic church.

    Standing on the foothills of “Jabal EL Cheikh” or “Hermon Mountain”, Rachaya el Wadi is distinguished for its old red-tile-roofed stone houses that have survived the most difficult and relevant phases of the Lebanese history.

    Our hike in Rachaya El Wadi will be divided into two levels, Level 3 & 5 which will start all together on “Emm Chratit” tree, where you can hang your wish and take a tour in the village to see its most relevant sites such as the public garden, the old souk, the orthodox monastery, the citadel of independence and the old syriac-catholic church.

    Then, Level 3 & 5 will continue on trails leading to the end of the village where they will see the beautiful streets and agricultural resources of the village.

    Level 3 will take the bus back to the center of the village.
    Level 5 will come back hiking to meet with the rest of the group.

    We will stop for lunch in Rachaya. A Women’s Association will prepare for us a delicious village style lunch. They will prepare a healthy nutritious meal from natural products. It will be a good opportunity to encourage and support the people in these rural areas. You can buy their homemade food products and take it home.

    MEETING PLACE: 7:30 AM in the parking of Sagesse School in Jdeideh, facing the public garden. (See map on: https://www.vamos-todos.com/Pages/ParkingMap.aspx).
    There will be a breakfast stop along the way.

    PRICE: 50$ per person including transport, guides, insurance, fortress entrance and lunch.

    WHAT TO GET: Light snacks that will boost up your energy such as dried fruits, water, cap, sunglasses and sunscreen. Wear comfortable shoes such as hiking shoes and always keep a windproof jacket in your backpack.

    SPECIAL RATES:
    - Children with the age of 10 and younger will have a discount of 5$.
    - Children/ Teenagers between the age of 11 and 18 will have a discount of 4$.
    - University students will have a discount of 3$ provided that they present their university card.
    - Groups with 5 to 9 persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a 2$ discount.
    - Groups with 10 or more persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a 3$ discount.

    PAYMENT TERMS:
    - Cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged half-price.
    - Reservations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged an extra 2$.
    (e.g. Cancelling or booking for a Sunday’s event on Saturday will be subject to the above terms).

    ESSENTIAL ECOTOURISTIC RULES & REGULATIONS
    - Smoking is strictly prohibited during the event
    - Always follow the guide on the designated trail
    - Do not go off road without notifying the guide
    - Do not get close to a cliff especially when the guide in charge tells you not to do so
    - Although accidents are covered by the insurance but they remain under the responsibility of the member
    - Sometimes, due to reasons beyond our control, slight modifications to the program may occur. Ecotourism rules must be followed, otherwise personal accidents will not be accounted for by the insurance.
