Trip - Sri Lanka's Eco Adventure - Sri Lanka

  • Sri Lanka's Eco Adventure

Are you ready to discover an enchanted island, blessed with over a thousand treasures?

When the noted writer Sir Arthur C Clarke made his home in Sri Lanka in 1956, he claimed the island the jewel of the Indian Ocean and the best place in the world from which to view the universe.

Our trip to Sri Lanka will be really unforgettable. It will be diverse, with eco-tourism, city tours, nature adventure, cultural shows, tea tasting...and much more.

The main places of interest are the following:

Colombo City: Almost overnight, skyscrapers arise from where old buildings once stood. Yet in some parts, the old-world charm is retained. For example, there is a 100-year-old clock tower and several British built colonial buildings. Other places of interest are the Pettah Bazaar - where one can shop for bargain, a Hindu and a Buddhist temple, residential areas where you find the stately homes of the affluent, the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) - an outright gift to Sri Lanka from the People's Republic of China.

Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage: The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage was started in 1975 by the Department of Wildlife. There are only a few elephant orphanages in the world. Pinnawela has now become one of the biggest orphanages and is quite well known worldwide. At Pinnawela an attempt was made to simulate, in a limited way, the conditions in the wild. Animals are allowed to roam freely during the day and a herd structure is allowed to form.

Sigiriya Rock Fortress: Sigiriya (Lion's rock) is an ancient rock fortress and palace ruin situated in the central Matale District, surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs, and other structures. It is a popular tourist destination. You get the best view of the jungle from the top.

Matale Spice Garden: Matale Spice Garden is Sri Lanka’s immortal soul. Here you’ll find in abundance the great scents, tastes and medicines that make Sri Lanka famous. Stroll around the fragrant greenery and through the cardamom groves in the shade of huge tropical trees and give your sense of smell a new lease on life. Sniff, see and learn about nutmeg, pepper, cloves, curry, cinnamon and many others at Matale, and experience the great riches of Sri Lanka’s cuisine and traditional Ayurveda therapy.

Temple of the Tooth: Located in Kandy, long a center of the Buddhist faith, the stunning 17th-century Temple of the Tooth is believed to house the left upper canine tooth of the Lord Buddha himself. This precious relic attracts pilgrims every day.

Nuwara Eliya: Nuwara Eliya (City of Lights), also known as 'Little' England', was the favorite hill station of the British who tried to transform Nuwara Eliya into a typical English Village. It is situated at 2000 meters above sea level and is surrounded by tea plantations.

Ella: Ella is a beautiful small backpacker-hub on the southern edge of Sri Lanka's Hill Country. It has become to go to town in the hill country for tourists and as a result has a reasonably well-established tourism-orientated economy. It's situated in the middle of beautiful countryside, with small vegetable plots in the valleys, teaplantations on the hill slopes and forests on the tops.

Galle Fort: Galle Fort is the largest intact Dutch fort in Asia. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Located facing the Indian Ocean in the town of Galle, on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, Galle Fort is one of the best preserved examples of 17th century colonial fortifications in the world.
