Hiking Trip - Daqqoun - Damour - Aley & Chouf District

    Daqqoun and Damour are two villages in the Mount Lebanon Governorate overlooking the coast. Both are located at the South-East of Beirut. Daqqoun is in the Aley District while Damour is in the Chouf District.

    Daqqoun, its name is said to be derived from the village’s men. They were known for their well-built bodies, strong fists, & long beards. It is considered one of the most spectacular villages in Aley District because of its glorious nature. Throughout this village, there are some heritage sights that go back to the Phoenician, Roman, and Ottoman Era. Unfortunately, some were destroyed during the Civil War.

    As for Damour, the name of the town is obtained from the name of the Phoenician God Damoros who symbolized immortality. It is known as one of the biggest coastal cities that’s notable for its pleasant weather. Moreover, it is surrounded by plantations of bananas and vegetable crops. Damour is popular for its archeological bridge that dates back to the era of Prince-Béchir Shehab, who had a great interest in it, it was accounted as a strategic and vital transit point between Mount Lebanon and the South.
    This hike will allow us to walk through a pine forest with some historical sites such as ancient graveyards.

    The hike will be partitioned into two levels:

    LEVEL 6 is 12 kms long. We will start hiking uphill until we end up at the top of the village (Dakkoun). On our way downhill, we will pass by Saint Takla hill going to Daraya, which is an abandoned town that is abundant with heavenly oak trees, until we reach the well-known Damour town.

    LEVEL 4 is an 8 kms long, mostly downhill and flat. We will begin from the top of the village (Dakkoun), going downhill until we reach the Damour town. The scenery from there is breathtaking overlooking Beirut’s Coast.

    Both levels will end their hikes at Arcenciel –Damour. Arcenciel is a non-profit organization, which supports people living with war-related disabilities, by integrating them into the advancement of society.

    MEETING PLACE: 7:30 AM in the parking of Sagesse School in Jdeideh, facing the public garden. (See map on: https://www.vamos-todos.com/Pages/ParkingMap.aspx)
    There will be a breakfast stop along the way.

    PRICE: 55,000 LL per person including transport, guides and insurance. (Please get the exact change to facilitate the registration process).

    WHAT TO GET: Lunch, light snacks that will boost up your energy such as dried fruits, water, cap, sunglasses and sunscreen. Wear comfortable shoes such as hiking shoes and always keep a windproof jacket in your backpack.

    SPECIAL RATES:
    - Children with the age of 10 and younger will have a discount of 20’000 LBP
    - Children/ Teenagers between the age of 11 and 18 will have a discount of 15’000 LBP
    - University students will have a discounts of 10’000 LBP provided that they present their university card
    - Groups with 5 to 9 persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a 5’000 LBP discount
    - Groups with 10 or more persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a 10’000 LBP discount

    PAYMENT TERMS:
    - Cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged half-price
    - Reservations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged an extra 5’000 LBP
    (e.g. Cancelling or booking for a Sunday’s event on Saturday will be subject to the above terms)

    ESSENTIAL ECOTOURISTIC RULES & REGULATIONS
    - Smoking is strictly prohibited during the event
    - Always follow the guide on the designated trail
    - Do not go off road without notifying the guide
    - Do not get close to a cliff especially when the guide in charge tells you not to do so
    - Although accidents are covered by the insurance but they remain under the responsibility of the member
    - Sometimes, due to reasons beyond our control, slight modifications to the program may occur. Ecotourism rules must be followed, otherwise personal accidents will not be accounted for by the insurance.
