Hiking Trip - Anjar - Haouch Moussa! - Bekaa Valley

  • We are heading to the amazing town of Anjar where nature and history combine.

    Anjar Umayyad Ruins and Anjar Hima are our destination. We would first like to appreciate the amazing work done by the municipality and the youth of Anjar and the immense contribution to ecotourism and its development in the area.
    Below is a snapshot of our main destination.

    Anjar Umayyad Ruins:
    Anjar is a relative new-comer, going back to the early 8th Century AD, the Umayyad period. The Umayyads were the first of the two great dynasties of the Arab Moslem Empire.
    Unlike Tyre and Byblos, which claim continuous habitation since the day they were founded, Anjar flourished for only a few decades.

    At other historical sites in the country, different epochs and civilization are superimposed one on top of the other. Anjar is exclusively one period, the Umayyad.
    The walls of the Great Palace are still largely intact, with clues to the former presence of forty towers.
    Our hike will be divided into three levels: 2, 3 and 5.
    Our first stop will be in Anjar. We will visit the ruins and learn about the Umayyad period.

    Then we will start the hike together towards Anjar Reserve, passing by the river source. It will be an easy hike in fields, meadows and small farms. We will see farmers harvesting their crops. It is a new sight to the eye since the laborers differ in culture, dress code and dialect.

    Level 2 & 3 will then take an easy trail while level 5 will go uphill to the hills overlooking the area.
    When we get to the summit, we will see a reserve and two caves.
    Level 2 & 3 will see the bottom one, while the Level 5 will see both caves.
    Once at the top, both levels will see beautiful panoramic views of the wonderful Bekaa valley, spanning all around us.

    We will also pass by an old water mill in the area, and pass by some beautiful woods before meeting at the end in a wonderful restaurant by the lakes, to have a traditional Armenian lunch prepared by the locals of Anjar.
    The total length of the trail is around 4 km for level 2, 7 km for level 3 and 12 km for level 5.

    MEETING PLACE: 7:30 AM in the parking of Sagesse School in Jdeideh, facing the public garden. (See map on: https://www.vamos-todos.com/Pages/ParkingMap.aspx)
    There will be a breakfast stop along the way.

    PRICE: 90,000 LL per person including transport, guides, insurance and lunch.
    60,000 LL without lunch (Please get the exact change to facilitate the registration process).

    WHAT TO GET: Light snacks that will boost up your energy such as dried fruits, water, cap, sunglasses and sunscreen. Wear comfortable shoes such as hiking shoes and always keep a windproof jacket in your backpack.

    SPECIAL RATES:
    - Children with the age of 10 and younger will have a discount of 25’000 LBP
    - Children/ Teenagers between the age of 11 and 18 will have a discount of 20’000 LBP
    - University students will have a discounts of 15’000 LBP provided that they present their university card
    - Groups with 5 to 9 persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a 5’000 LBP discount
    - Groups with 10 or more persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a 10’000 LBP discount

    PAYMENT TERMS:
    - Cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged half-price
    - Reservations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged an extra 5’000 LBP
    (e.g. Cancelling or booking for a Sunday’s event on Saturday will be subject to the above terms)

    ESSENTIAL ECOTOURISTIC RULES & REGULATIONS
    - Smoking is strictly prohibited during the event
    - Always follow the guide on the designated trail
    - Do not go off road without notifying the guide
    - Do not get close to a cliff especially when the guide in charge tells you not to do so
    - Although accidents are covered by the insurance but they remain under the responsibility of the member
    - Sometimes, due to reasons beyond our control, slight modifications to the program may occur. Ecotourism rules must be followed, otherwise personal accidents will not be accounted for by the insurance.
