Hiking and Tour - Deir El Qamar Hike & Tour - Chouf District

  • Join us on a journey to explore the charming village of Deir el Qamar, where hiking and heritage come together for a memorable experience.

Historically, Deir el Qamar was the capital of Mount Lebanon from the 16th to the 18th centuries, serving as a regional palace for the Emirs. It also holds the distinction of being the first Lebanese village to establish a municipality in 1864.

Once the site of a Roman temple, Deir el Qamar has been a protected area since 1945. It remains one of the few villages in Lebanon to retain its old-world charm, with narrow, winding cobblestone streets, red-tiled roofs, and traditional stone houses. The village beautifully reflects
Lebanon’s religious diversity, with a synagogue, church, and mosque all located in its central public square.

After a refreshing breakfast, we will travel by bus to the Deir el Qamar Cross Shrine ("Tallet el Salib") and the hilltop chapel of Father Yaacoub, where we’ll enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view.

Our hike will take us on a moderate-level route:

Level 5: The hike begins from the Cross Hill, following a gentle uphill trail that leads us to Kfarkatra ("Sheer Kfar Katra"), situated at an altitude of 1000 meters. Along the way, we’ll pass by fresh springs, stunning nature, and old stone houses. The trail then descends, offering magnificent views, before reaching Maaser Beit El-Dine and the Beit El-Dine valley. We will conclude the hike in the expansive Deir el Qamar Square (formerly known as "Midane"). The route covers 8 km, with both uphill and downhill sections.

A delicious homemade lunch will be served after the hike, prepared especially for our group.
Following lunch, we will embark on a cultural and architectural tour of the central square, led by a local guide. We will visit the old synagogue, the miraculous church of Saydet el-Talleh, Fakhreddine Mosque, Youssef Shehab Serail, and the beautiful Silk Khan, immersing ourselves in the rich history and heritage of this remarkable village.
