Hiking Trip - Sahel Alma - Ghosta Hike - Keserwan District

  • New Trail: Sahel Alma - Ghosta - Ain Warka

Our hike commences in Sahel Alma, offering breathtaking panoramic views that stretch from Tripoli to Beirut, encompassing the stunning Gulf of Jounieh.

As we start our journey, we will explore several monasteries, including Deir Baklouch, Deir Mar Youhanna El Kreim in Ghosta and the new project of Jabal El Rahme, and finally, Deir Ain Warka.

Jabal El Rahme – Mount of Mercy
Nestled within the Mount of Mercy project, you'll find Lebanon's tallest statue of Jesus Christ. This project also comprises a chapel dedicated to “Mother Teresa” and a museum honoring Saint John Paul II. The statue's total height reaches 22 meters, inclusive of its 10-meter base.

    Ain Warka Monastery
The Ain Warka Monastery is a historical landmark located in the town of Ain Warka, boasting a rich history dating back to the 13th century when it was initially constructed by Maronite monks. Once serving as a hub for learning, it has now become a favored destination for individuals passionate about religious tourism and history.

    The hike offers two levels:
    • LEVEL 6: Beginning from Sahel Alma, this path spans approximately 11 kilometers, including uphill sections of about 400 meters.
    • LEVEL 3: Starting from Deir Mar Youhanna El Kreim, this level allows you to explore the stunning monastery and its associated project. Subsequently, both groups will converge at Deir Ain Warka.

At Deir El Kreim, we will visit the tomb of Father Boutros Chalhoub, the founder of the Scouts of Lebanon, before visiting the Mount of Mercy statue project.

At Deir Ain Warka, you'll receive insights into the site's history, after which we'll continue our scenic walk along the well-maintained trail, ultimately returning to Sahel Alma.

To conclude our beautiful day, we will all gather to savor a delicious homemade lunch in a charming old guesthouse before returning to Beirut.
